2021 Corrigan Oil Speedway Schedule Released!
Corrigan Oil Speedway Prepared for 2021 Season
Mason, MI (Tuesday, January 19, 2021) - Under new ownership in 2021, Tom and Tracey Hernley have announced the 2021 schedule for Corrigan Oil Speedway, formerly known as Spartan Speedway. The schedule features over 20 nights of action at the bullring just outside the Lansing suburb and includes a warm welcome to Outlaw Super Late Models (OSLM), Modifieds, the return of Sunday Slugfests, and other staple events historically found at Corrigan Oil Speedway.
The season is officially scheduled to get underway on Friday, April 23rd with the first race of the season. The opener features the first event in the NorthsideTowing.net Big 8 Super Late Model Series - an eight race mini-series for the OSLM. The other seven dates in the mini-series include May 7th, May 21st, June 11th, July 16th, July 23rd, August 13th and August 20th. OSLM will also battle during a pair of special events, the Harvest 100 on September 5th, and the Wild Child 100 on July 2nd, an event the Hernly’s are excited to host at Corrigan Oil Speedway.
“We really wanted to focus on having a signature event,” Tom Hernly told Horsepower Happenings. “We’ve always enjoyed, throughout our racing careers, racing on the Fourth of July, and we figured, what a better time to have it.” The Midwest Modified Tour will also be on hand July 2nd as part of the Wild Child 100. Hernly says more information on that specific event is expected to be announced soon.
Hernly says the eight races for the OSLM Big 8 Series are scheduled strategically to ensure those events don’t conflict with other major OSLM races in the midwest. The events will feature an elevated purse and will run exclusively on Friday nights.
Modifieds at Corrigan Oil Speedway will also have their own mini-series built into the 2021 schedule. Labeled as the Modified Challenge Series, they’ll also do battle for eight races with a separate points structure and payout from the weekly competition.
Four Sunday Slugfest races are currently on the schedule for 2021, which will also award separate champions in multiple divisions, including the Bandoleros, Legends, Late Model Sportsman, Modifieds, Pony Stock, Pure Stocks, Street Stocks, and Figure 8 racing. The very first Slugfest on Sunday, May 30th will feature the Modified Challenge Series, and a $500 to win prize for the Street Stocks. On Sunday, June 20th, Slugfest #2 features a Figure 8 race plus $500 to win for Pure Stocks; Slugfest #3 on July 18th will again feature the Modified Challenge Series and $500 to win for Street Stocks; the fourth and final Slugfest will take place on August 15th with another Modified Challenge Series race and $500 to win for Pure Stocks.
Finally, three Night of Destruction events land throughout the schedule, with the first on Friday, June 4th. The nights will feature School Bus Figure 8 racing alongside other exciting, unique and destructive races. The other Night of Destruction events are scheduled for Friday, August 6th and Friday, September 10th.
Tom and Tracey Hernly say that while the schedule is out, more details are expected to be released throughout the following weeks. They say a new website is being built, and work is ongoing to prepare the facility for the upcoming season. More information is also expected on payouts and additional sponsorships for 2021.
